In the dust to dust scene the non digetic music playing in the background is chilling and sharp, reflecting on the dire, grotesque situation one of the characters has been forced to suffer through.

The ever iconic “shower scene” possesses a graphic match cut from the eye of the woman to the swirling drain, creating an frighteningly eerie atmosphere. The camera work here is vital as it symbolizes how the woman is dead (with the subsequent close up of the drain being hollow and dark) without actually dispensing any dialogue.

Greta is portrayed as a character that has been (according to her) ignored and shafted by everyone around her. These accusations and claims are synonymous with paranoia and this unjust yearning for attention undoubtedly establishes the conflict in the film. It is also important to note that the Mise-En-Scene depicts Greta as having cloths that are lacking in bright colors or diversity, in contrast to the woman she is talking to, who is wearing attire that is stands out and is diverse, establishing which role each character plays. (Great is the villain and the woman is the hero, through Vladimir propps theory of narrative)

During the end of the film it is revealed that instead of the kidnapper taking Jill's sister far away from her, it is revealed that she has been under her house the entire time. This moment acts as a plot twist in the narrative of the film as both the Jill and the audience have been lead to believe that the protagonist's sister is long gone, however upon the revelation of this not being the case, the situation becomes more tragic, as all Jill had to do was look under the place where she lives. This causes the audience to become starstruck and perhaps sad, as Jill's efforts throughout most of the film have been for virtually nothing.
